I’m pretty much done with the new book publicity for Hell With the Lid Blown Off, my seventh and latest Alafair
Tucker mystery. The book came out in June, and the conventional wisdom is that a new book is of interest to booksellers and reviewers for about three months. So I’m way over the limit, but I’ve done pretty well. Yesterday I did my last scheduled appearance for 2014, and I don’t have another event on the horizon until January 2015. July 2015, interestingly, marks the tenth anniversary of the publication of my first Alafair book, The Old Buzzard Had It Coming. Should I do something special to mark the event? I’ll have to think about it.
Anyway, I’m done with the strictly Hell-related PR, which means it’s time to get cracking on the next book. I told my editor that I’d try to have 100 pages done for her approval by the first of December. I figured I could manage that because I actually have written about 150 pages. The only problem is that they don’t hang together, i.e. at this point the story is not contiguous. If only books would magically appear on the page in as brilliant a form as they take in my head.
So, if I can get 100 pages of story that follow one another in logical order, get it turned in by early December, AND my editor likes it and gives me the go-ahead, the next book will be scheduled for publication in the fall of 2015. Fingers crossed.
In the meantime, fellow Poisoned Pen Author Barbara Leavy conducted the most amazing interview with me and posted it on her site. I spilled everything about my background all the way back to before the Revolutionary War. I intend eventually to use the interview on my Press Kit page, but for the next couple of weeks, it’ll be exclusively on Barbara’s site and you can read it by clicking here.
Also, the PR mavin at Poisoned Pen Press suggested that I might like to add a page to this web site that is devoted to recipes and food. I think that is a wonderful idea. The only problem is that I’m going to have to educate myself on how to do it. So I’ll get right on it as soon as I figure out how. I’ll let you know, Dear Readers.
Wish me luck, website and new book-wise.
