Last week I was invited to become a regular contributor to Type M 4 Murder, which is an authors’ blog that was started by fellow Poisoned Pen Press author Vicki Delany. Each entry is by a different author every day, in which we talk about our work and our writing lives. It’s really quite fascinating.

The three original contributors were Vicki, Charles Benoit, and Rick Blechta, all of whom are from the upper latitudes. Vicki Delany is a Canadian whose stories are set in that country’s frozen north. Her first book, Chase the Light Away, was quite an interesting tale of how the past affects the present. Her latest book, Shadow of the Glacier, will be out this fall at about the same time as my new book.

Charles Benoit is another Poisoned Pen author who lives in Rochester, New York. His books are more international thrillers than whodunnits, all set in exotic climes. His new book is called Noble Lies. It’s set in Thailand. Interestingly, my husband is proofreading the ARC right now, and tells me that it’s quite intriguing. Noble Lies is also due to be published this fall, and just received a Publishers Weekly starred review.

Rick Blechta is another Canadian, an award winning author and a musician who lives in Toronto. His latest book is called When Hell Freezes Over.

Apparently, it was hard for the three of them to blog enough, so they invited two other authors to join – Yours Truly and Debbie Atkinson, yet another PPP alumna, who writes a fascinating series set in Hawaii featuring one Storm Kayama, the latest of which, Fire Prayer, will be out this fall, too!

Since Charles, Rick, and Vicki are all Northerners, I guess they decided to extend their coverage by inviting an Arizonan and a Hawaiian – a Westerner and a WAY Westerner. Each of us writes on a different day. I’m Saturday. I’ve already done two entries, one brief introduction last Wednesday, and a regular entry on Saturday. I’ll be putting links to the web site, and to each of the authors’ individual web sites, on my “Links” page. Please come by and see us. The address is www.typem4murder.blogspot.com.

In other news, I will be doing an event at the Tattered Cover Bookstore on Colfax in Denver on Friday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. The program is still in the planning stages, but it looks like it’s going to be quite the thing. More details to come. I’ve also finalized plans to attend Bouchercon at the end of September. For the uninitiated, Bouchercon is an extremely huge (if I may overdo my adjectives) conference for mystery and thriller writers, publishers, readers, and anybody else who’s interested. It’s a travelling conference which is held in a different city every year, rather like the Olympics. This year, it will be in Ancorage, Alaska, on Sept. 27-29. Poisoned Pen Press is being honored this year, and I’ll be flying along with 20 people from the press! From what I’m hearing, there will be at least that many PPP authors there as well. I’m all atingle.

    Donis,
I just checked and saw that Amazon has now listed “The Drop Edge of Yonder” with a release date of October 15th. The Publishers Weekly review of the book has really whetted my appetite for reading it.
I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Alaska before, but if you haven’t, then by all means try and find a few days before or after your stay in Anchorage to check out some of the 49th state’s truly magnificent scenery. I’ve been there twice and can’t wait to go back for a third visit.
    All my best, Randy
