Another month has passed, a long and frustrating one. My husband has been dealing with a recurrence of health problems again, and we are visiting doctors more than anyone ought. In fact, he had a doctor’s appointment every single day this past week. In some areas he’s holding his own, but some are getting worse and no one seems to know why. So I expect September to be problematic as well, doctor-wise.<\/p>\n

We talk about all of this a lot, as you can imagine. It’s been three years since things started going south, and he told me this morning that actually he’s less disturbed about having to deal with it than he was at first. It goes to show that you can get used to anything.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, we both try to carry on much as usual. I’ve been making good progress on the next Alafair book, he’s been having some success with his poetry. Actually, in between procedures and scares, life is pretty sweet if you can live in the moment. Or as I thought recently, I’ve been living in the gaps between my own moments of fear and grief.<\/p>\n

Mara Purl<\/p><\/div>I have several book events scheduled for October – Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe with Mara Purl, a talk for the Brandeis University group at a Barnes and Noble in Scottsdale on the 17th, and I’ll be teaching a writing class for the Avondale Writers’ Conference in Avondale on October 29. Check out my “Events” page (click on icon, above) for details.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, I hope to finish the new book by the end of the year and continue contributing to my blogs (don’t forget to check out my new gig at the Poisoned Pen Press blog<\/a> on the 27th of every month.)
