Hornswoggled <\/em>is now well launched and away.\u00c2\u00a0 I did my first talk\/signing for my second book at Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale day before yesterday, Sept. 12, followed by a repeat program at Poisoned Pen Central Bookstore in Phoenix on the 13th.\u00c2\u00a0 I was partnered with Jon Talton, Arizona Republic<\/em> newspaper business columnist and author of four “David Mapstone” mysteries, the fourth of which, Arizona Dreams<\/em>.<\/strong>, has also just been published by Poisoned Pen Press.\u00c2\u00a0 The events were most pleasant and relatively successful, and I’m grateful to my publisher for pairing me with Jon, who is\u00c2\u00a0something of a local celebrity with a nice\u00c2\u00a0following.\u00c2\u00a0 I was only too happy to attach myself to his coattails.\u00c2\u00a0 Jon and I each spoke about our respective books for a few minutes, then talked about writing and answered audience questions.\u00c2\u00a0He was generous and witty, and I thought we worked off of each other well.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 And lest I sound too modest,\u00c2\u00a0some of my peeps attended the event as well, and\u00c2\u00a0my repartee was witty enough <\/p>\n

As for the outfit, I know you’re atingle with anticipation, Dear Reader.\u00c2\u00a0 I wore black\u00c2\u00a0: slacks and a light jacket, with a white blouse, tan heels (not too high), and lots of showy copper jewelry; necklace, pin, rings, bracelet,\u00c2\u00a0and big honking earrings.\u00c2\u00a0 I know the fashion rule is “less is more”, but\u00c2\u00a0when it comes to copper jewelry, in my little world, sometimes\u00c2\u00a0“more is more”.<\/p>\n

More reviews\u00c2\u00a0of Hornswoggled <\/em>\u00c2\u00a0are showing up slowly.\u00c2\u00a0 There was a nice one in the Contra Costa Times <\/em>last week, by Roberta Alexander, who\u00c2\u00a0gave Buzzard<\/em> such a glowing review last year.\u00c2\u00a0 She liked Hornswoggled\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>but wasn’t quite as enthralled with it as\u00c2\u00a0she was the first book.\u00c2\u00a0 Still a nice review, though, and I appreciated it.\u00c2\u00a0 And, the very next day, I received a\u00c2\u00a0wonderful e-letter from\u00c2\u00a0a woman in Illinois who loved the book, so I was saved from having to throw myself under a train.\u00c2\u00a0 Because, as anyone who has ever written anything knows, you’re always wondering if you’re losing your touch.<\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0So, lots of events to go, including the October book tour of Oklahoma.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I certainly hope anyone within driving distance of any of my talks or signings will drop in and see me.\u00c2\u00a0 And don’t forget to go to www.okreadsok.org<\/a> before the end of October and\u00c2\u00a0vote for The Old Buzzard Had It Coming <\/em>to become the Oklahoma Centennial book for 2007.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
