{"id":67,"date":"2007-02-02T17:06:41","date_gmt":"2007-02-02T23:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.doniscasey.com\/?p=67"},"modified":"2007-02-02T17:06:41","modified_gmt":"2007-02-02T23:06:41","slug":"im-back-halleluja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.doniscasey.com\/?p=67","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m Back, Halleluja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of you Dear Readers may have noticed that this web site has been down for several days.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently the web host had some sort of catastrophic problem with his mother board, or some other hideous problem along those lines that I can&#8217;t understand, either.<\/p>\n<p>I was concerned, but Chris, my brother\/web master, lost several sites and nearly had a stroke.\u00c2\u00a0 As you can see, though, everything is back up and all&#8217;s well that ends well.\u00c2\u00a0 I certainly intend to print off every entry on this site, since I&#8217;d hate to lose all these pearls of wisdom that I&#8217;ve posted over the past couple of years.\u00c2\u00a0 Chris told me he&#8217;s going to immediately do a database back up, burn it to a CD, lock it in a lead-lined steel box and bury it in the back yard to be defended by his vicious guard dog.<\/p>\n<p>This just goes to show that technology ain&#8217;t all it&#8217;s cracked up to be, by Jove.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m reminded of the old <em>Twilight Zone<\/em> episode in which every speck of human knowledge was transfered to a microdot, and then somebody lost the microdot.\u00c2\u00a0 Imagine, if you will, what would happen if electricity went away.\u00c2\u00a0 What would you lose forever, and what would you no longer be able to do that you count on to live?\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll tell you one thing, I wouldn&#8217;t be able to live here in this giant metropolis in the middle of the Sonoran Desert without air conditioning.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m not nearly as tough as the native people\u00c2\u00a0and settlers\u00c2\u00a0who lived here before and endured the heat without even thinking about it, really.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, I grew up without air conditioning in Oklahoma, which is no slouch when it comes to summer heat.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve grown considerably wimpier since then.<\/p>\n<p>But I digress.\u00c2\u00a0 Returning to my rant about technology, on top of losing the web site, I just discovered this morning that the monitor on my desk top computer has given up the ghost.\u00c2\u00a0 My husband Don has been out all day and doesn&#8217;t know this yet, so I&#8217;m brushing up on my CPR skills for when he comes home.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, this will be the catalyst that makes us finally buy a flat-screen monitor.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I long for the days of the electric typewriter.\u00c2\u00a0 Or maybe the quill pen.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, my plan was to do an entry on writing dialect, but I&#8217;ll post that in a few days, along with my updated events schedule for this year, after I check out the rest of this site to make\u00c2\u00a0sure everything is where it should be and all the links work.<\/p>\n<p>Glad to be back.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some of you Dear Readers may have noticed that this web site has been down for several days.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently the web host had some sort of catastrophic problem with his mother board, or some other hideous problem along those lines that I can&#8217;t understand, either.
