Tomorrow (Dec 21) may actually be the end of time if the Mayan Apocolypsers are right. \u00a0But just in case they aren\u2019t, I\u2019ve been doing my best to get as much writing done on the new book as I can before 2012 makes its exit. \u00a0I have a lot of stuff going in January 2013, and I\u2019m afraid that it\u2019s going to be hard to keep up with the writing schedule after New Years.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be doing several events in January, though I\u2019ve only posted the details of two of them on the Events page, a plotting workshop for the Arizona Authors Association on January 5 and a book signing at the Arizona Historical Society on January 18. \u00a0I don\u2019t have all the details of the others yet. \u00a0I just know the dates of the events and that I\u2019ve been asked to participate. One is at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore on January 8 in the evening, in conjunction with an ASU writing class. Another is The Big Read Writing Conference in Surprise, AZ, on January 25. I\u2019ll let you all know the skinny as soon as I know it myself.<\/p>\n

Interspersed with the book events are fun things like a jury summons on January 2 (Happy New Year!) and doctor\u2019s appointments galore for the husband \u2014 as usual. \u00a0Though I am glad to say that all the doctor appointments are routine. \u00a0After a horrific 2012, operation\/hospitalization\/tough recovery-wise, Don is in a very good place right now, thanks to a course of high-vitamin i.v.s and a good naturopath. \u00a0While he\u2019s feeling well, \u00a0I am trying to make literary hay while the sun shines*.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been writing on the first installment of what I hope will be a trilogy. \u00a0I have not shopped this book anywhere yet, so we shall see if any publisher bites. \u00a0It\u2019s interesting to work on. \u00a0The book has a modern setting, here in the Phoenix metro area, and revolves around a Celtic gift shop and its denizens. \u00a0The only problem I\u2019m finding is that after working on a historical series for most of a decade, I\u2019m really having to bring myself up to speed about modern crime-solving techniques. \u00a0Dang cell phones and surveillance cameras! There will be more Alafairs, be assured. If I don\u2019t get another chance, have a wonderful holiday season, whatever you and your family celebrate.<\/p>\n
