The Poisoned Pen event was my first since The Drop Edge of Yonder came out a few weeks ago, if you don’t count Bouchercon. I was on the bill along with Richard Benke and Nancy E. Turner. Dick Benke lives in Albuquerque, is a former journalist, and is writing mysteries set in the New Mexico bootheel, right on the Mexican border. He was launching his new book, City of Stone. Nancy E, Turner is best known for her historical novel set in Arizona, These Is My Words and its sequel, Sarah’s Quilt. Her newest book in the same series is called The Star Garden. The crowd wasn’t quite as big as I expected, considering that Nancy has quite a following. I imagine that having the event on a Monday evening that happens to also be Columbus Day didn’t help.

Last night’s talk was a charity event for PEO, a women’s philanthropic educational organization, which featured me and Ken Kuhlken, author of The Doh-Re-Mi, and a a silent auction as well. There was a pretty good crowd at that one, and Ken and I sold quite a number of books as well as helped raise money for the organization.

And today, Don and I are getting ready to strike out for Colorado and the Women Writing the West Conference next weekend, followed by a talk and signing at a Barnes & Noble in Colorado Springs on the 25th, and an event with California author Mara Purl at the Tattered Cover on Colfax in Denver on the 26th. Check out the “Events” page for the particulars, because I would love to see you at any of these gigs, Dear Reader.

Actually, I’m rather looking forward to driving out of town and leaving it all behind for the two or three days we’re going to take to get to Colorado. I’m in the throes of New Book Activities, which gets tiring rather quickly.

While we’re in Colorado, though, we will get to spend time with Don’s sister and her family and with my sister and her family. Now, that sounds like a good thing to me. But before we can go, Dear Reader, I must go pack and clean and prepare for the housesitter, his wife, and his yappy little dog, so I’ll sign off. If I can, I’ll post my adventures while on the trip, but if I can’t manage it, I’ll fill you in when I get back in two weeks.

Until then, keep reading, and be sure and let me know what you think of Drop Edge

Since last I posted, I did a talk and signing at Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale on Oct 8 and a talk and signing last night at Pyle Adult Center in Tempe.
