May 1st, 2023

Today is May first, Dear Reader, and an unpleasant day today is in Phoenix Arizona. We had our first 100ºF day of 2023 yesterday (102º, actually), which is about normal for this time of year. In fact, it’s been a pretty mild spring, knock on wood, and it’s supposed to cool down again this week, even reaching the high 70s by Wednesday. Unheard of! However, ahead of the cool front, the wind is blowing like gangbusters today, and dust and pollen is being forcibly rammed up everyone’s sinuses and into eyes, Yours Truly not excepted. So I’m not feeling tip-top.

Still, that’s not going to keep me from writing today. As anyone who aspires to produce a book knows, you really can’t stop when you’re on a roll. In truth, you can’t stop when you’re not on a roll, either. Writing is like a physical activity. If you don’t keep at it, your muscles atrophy!

The pandemic was very bad for my writing career. My last book came out during the shut-down and basically tanked, so I’m starting a new series in the hopes lightning will strike again and someone will want to publish it. The new book is my first contemporary mystery. Let’s see if I can pull it off! I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, don’t miss this month’s Tell Me Your Story. On May 20 I’ll be hosting Margaret C. Morse, author of mystery, suspense and urban fantasy novels and stories, animal lover, and retired attorney who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband Duane and a pack of rescue dogs. Before she quit to become a full-time writer, Margaret worked as an attorney for the Maricopa County (Arizona) Public Defender’s Office, handling cases in adult and juvenile court. Margaret used her experience as a criminal defense attorney to create her protagonist, lawyer Petra Rakowitz, who turns into a witch during her first murder case. When not fashioning a magic world, Margaret enjoys cooking, gardening, and bird watching. Read Margaret’s story right here beginning on May 20.
