Me, Barbara Peters, Betty Webb at Poisoned Pen

I had my official book launch of All Men Fear Me on Saturday (November 14) at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore. It was a wonderful event, and so many lovely readers showed up to see me expound on my book, the effect of World War I on people in the far reaches of Oklahoma, and prejudice and paranoia. People never change, do they?

Barbara Peters, owner of Poisoned Pen and coincidentally my editor, was the facilitator for the evening. It’s always a treat to do a Poisoned Pen event because of Barbara. If you suddenly go blank, she’s got another insightful question to ask and you end up looking brilliant and witty. The program featured not just myself, but fellow PPP-er Betty Webb, who was also launching her latest Gunn Zoo mystery, the Puffin of Death. This is such an entertaining series, and besides, Betty got to go to Iceland to do her research. I’m thinking of setting my next series in London or Vienna. After Betty and I regaled the audience for a while, we stopped for cupcakes and tea. Then Kate Carlisle and Jenn McKinlay got to introduce their new novels, Kate’s Crowned and Mouldering and Jenn’s first hardcover release, A Likely Story.

Then the very next day, my beloved spouse Don and I drove down to Tucson to appear at Clues Unlimited Bookstore with the lovely Jeffrey Siger, who was touting the latest in his Andreas Kaldis series, The Devil of Delphi. Jeff is always fun to do an event with. I like his series, set in Greece. I’ve just started reading Devil, and I must say I’m already delightfully creeped out by the set up. We had an excellent crowd at Clues, very responsive readers.

November 15 also happens to be my wedding anniversary, so Don and I drove up to Oracle and spent the night in a fancy resort. Heck, it’s only money.

On all three occasions, a good time was had by all.

Of course, this is just the beginning of promotional trek for All Men. I’m off to Glendale, AZ, 6:30 p.m.on Thursday, Nov. 19, to speak at Velma Teague Library along with Eileen Brady, then off to Ajo, AZ to entertain the folks at the Salazar-Ajo Public Library at 1:00 p.m. on November 20. There is a long list of Arizona events coming in December as well. Click on the Events page  (the link is above) to see if I’ll be appearing anywhere near you. I’d love to see you.

I’ll be sharing a new recipe in December, but don’t fail to check out the November addition to the Recipe page–an entire Thanksgiving feast. You may find something you’d like to add to your own Thanksgiving table.
