Tomorrow, April 17, I’ll be driving myself up to Scottsdale to have brunch with my friends Judy Starbuck and Hannah Dennison, after which Hannah will be speaking at Poisoned Pen Bookstore about her new book, Scoop. Scoop is the sequel to Hannah’s first book, A Vickie Hill Exclusive, which came out last year.
This is how I met Hannah. She did an event at Poisoned Pen in conjunction with A Vickie Hill Exclusive along with Our Mystery Superstar and Great Mother, Carolyn Hart, author of some 40 mysteries and one of the most admired names in the business. I adore Carolyn, who was an enormous help to me after my first book came out in 2005. So when I heard she was coming through with her lastest, Death Walked In, I volunteered to be the mistress of ceremonies at her PP talk and signing. I met up with Carolyn and Hannah at a Tempe Public Library event that afternoon, then took them to an early supper. We spent two or three wonderful hours together before the Poisoned Pen gig. I had read Hannah’s A Vickie Hill Exclusive in anticipation of emceeing their talk, and loved, loved, loved it.
Now Hannah is back with a new offering. Scoop also features the intrepid English newspaper obituary columnist/investigative-reporter-in-her-own-mind Vickie Hill, whom Hannah describes as the Lucy Ricardo of mysteries. If you like your mysteries hilarious and your heroines hapless, I’d suggest that Hannah Dennison’s Vickie Hill mysteries may be just your cup of tea.
