but suffice it to say for the moment that there have been some changes in my appearance schedule, which was already abbreviated, for a book launch. Last Tuesday I took my husband to the emergency room with what turned out to be acute kidney failure, and he’s still there, undergoing every test medical science has yet devised. Seems he has a blockage in both kidneys – large stones in the ureters, which they were unable to remove the ordinary way because of their size and since his kidneys were so huge and swollen and backed up. So, the put tubes in both his sides and his kidneys are draining into bags. The doc says the tubes will have to stay in for several weeks, then they’ll go back and get the stones. He’s doing well, kidney-wise, much improved. He should be able to go home soon, if all goes as planned. However, they have discovered some other problems they want to check out (are there more problems than he already has?), so there are several tests to come. But if nothing else rears its scary head, the doc is hoping he’ll be home early next week sometime.
So – needless to say, I didn’t make the Jan 10 signing in Oro Valley, nor will I be able to go to Glendale on the 14th. I’m still going to do the actual launch for The Sky Took Him on January 17, since it’s local and will only last a few hours, unless the unforeseen happens. I’m trying to renegotiate the Feb 14 date in Tucson, but thus far am planning on the Feb 15 date. By that time I expect I can do a day trip, with the help of friends, but I won’t be able to be away from home for two days and a night. March and April still stand. I insist that this whole nightmare be wrapped up by then.
I’ll try to fill you in a bit on the fun details of these last few days here and over on Type M as soon as I can. Until then, send me your good thoughts, come to the book launch if you can. I’m about to find out how well a book release can go with minimal input from the author.
p.s. On January 10, a guest blog I did for Poe’s Deadly Daughters came up. If you’re interested in what inspired me to write The Sky Took Him, go over to www.poesdeadlydaughters.blogspot.com and have a look.
